Inspired by their love of diving, this CT. couple wanted a salt- water aquarium to be a major influence in the design of the kitchen in their new home and what a conversation piece it is to everyone who comes to visit. Strategically positioned, homeowners and guests can view the tropical fish from three sides as they pass from kitchen to family room. As the focal point in the space the trick was to find quiet but interesting materials like the Verdi Karzi granite countertop and warm woods that complement the aquarium without taking away from it. The Caribbean inspired organic tile backsplash was the perfect complement to the bronze range hood giving a feeling of it floating on water. A large island was interlocking granite and wood island was designed for many hands to be working and chatting while guests look on.
