We worked with one of New Canaan’s premier builders to create a kitchen to fit the look and feel of a classic New England Shingle style home in Darien, CT.
The clients knew they wanted a hand painted finish on the cabinetry that would help convey an old-world impression. Seeing the brush strokes in paint always gives cabinetry a very warm look.
The design needed to be family centric and livable, the cabinetry details, traditional and timeless. Before you choose the finish for your cabinetry, you may want to better understand the pros and cons of different types of painted finishes and the maintenance involved. Marble was used on the perimeter areas of the kitchen along with a practical mahogany wood island. I think every kitchen needs a bit of old or new wood for warmth and contrast, even if it’s a beautiful wood salad bowl bearing fruit. Circa Lighting pendants cast a touch of glamour over the wood island, but nothing makes a kitchen feel as inviting as natural light flooding the space.
As always, I love sharing styling tips: A pop of green almost anywhere gives any room in your home mother-nature energy and life.
